  • Enabling Authority: Appropriation Act - Item 1 N.2. (Regular Session, 2017)
  • Description:
Received the following letter from the Joint Subcommittee to Consult on the Plan to Close State Training Centers on December 1, 2017: The 2017 General Assembly adopted new budget language (Item 1, paragraph N.2., Chapter 836, 2017 Acts of Assembly), that directed the Joint Subcommittee (of the House and Senate Finance Committees) to Consult on the Plan to Close State Training Centers to develop and evaluate a plan for consideration of operating a smaller state training. The plan shall determine operating costs, capital costs and other relevant factors for consideration by the General Assembly. The joint subcommittee is directed to make recommendations related to the plan to the General Assembly by November 30, 2017. Staff of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees have worked with staff from the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services to develop and evaluate several scenarios for the continued operation of a smaller training center. At this point, the Joint Subcommittee still needs to convene to consider the plan in order to make recommendations to the General Assembly. A meeting of the Joint Subcommittee will be scheduled to meet prior to the 2018 Session. At that meeting, staff will present the plan to the joint subcommittee for its consideration. Following the meeting, the joint subcommittee will submit a concise report summarizing the plan and recommendations to the General Assembly. With Best Regards, /s/ The Honorable Emmett W. Hanger, Jr. Co-Chairman, Senate Finance Committee
