HD31 - Report of the State Water Commission
Executive Summary: The State Water Commission is a legislatively mandated fifteen-member panel (Va. Code § 9-145.5) whose purpose is to: 1. Study all aspects of water supply and allocation problems in the Commonwealth. 2. Coordinate the legislative recommendations of all state entities having responsibility with respect to water supplies and allocation issues. During 1985, the Commission continued its effort to develop a state water policy which would enable the Commonwealth to better manage its water resources. The Commission was requested by the 1985 General Assembly to determine the adequacy of the powers of local government to protect water resources (House Joint Resolution 243) and to prepare recommendations to address the Commonwealth's water supply and water quality needs (House Joint Resolution 338). |
