Executive Summary:
House Joint Resolution 301 stated that the following plan of accreditation be realized by 1992:

A. The Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation should have all institutions for the mentally retarded in the Commonwealth accredited by the Accreditation Council on Developmental Disabilities, or be Medicaid certified;

B. The Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation should have all state mental hospitals in the Commonwealth accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals; and

C. Community services boards should have all community housing programs for the mentally disabled accredited by the Accreditation Council on Developmental Disabilities, or in compliance with departmental licensing regulations.

The Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services is currently in full compliance with each of these three requirements.
