HD38 - Report of the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services Semi-Annual Report (October 1, 2001 - March 31, 2002)
Executive Summary: The Office of Inspector General (OIG) was created to increase accountability in the public funded mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse service system in Virginia. The OIG mission is to challenge the Department of Mental Health Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services (DMHMRSAS) to provide quality care that is consistent with contemporary best practices. The Office of Inspector General works to compliment the usual regulatory processes such as licensure, JCAHO and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA, Health Care Financing Administration). The goal of the Office of Inspector General is to promote public services that are safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient and equitable. Ultimately this will result in Virginia being less vulnerable to scrutiny by external entities such as the Department of Justice. This report outlines the work of the Office during the semi-annual reporting period October 1, 2001 - March 31, 2002. (House Document No. 16 (2002) outlines the work during the semi-annual reporting period April 1, 2001 - September 30, 2001.) |
