RD7 - Virginia Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee - 2003 Annual Report

Executive Summary:
[This also satisfies the reporting requirement in 62.1-69.44, Code of Virginia]

The Virginia Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee (VRRBAC) was established in the executive branch of state government as an advisory committee to the Virginia delegation to the Roanoke River Basin Bi-State Commission. The Committee assists the delegation in fulfilling its duties and carrying out the objectives of the Commission, pursuant to § 62.1-69.39.

This year the Committee has functioned in largely an organizational and developmental manner. Officers have been appointed and subcommittees have been formed. Nine meetings of VRRBAC have been held throughout the basin in an effort to provide an opportunity for interested citizens to contribute input to the Committee. Issues important to the Basin have been considered and speakers have informed the group about pertinent topics. The Governor has appointed non-legislative representatives to the Virginia delegation of the Roanoke River Basin Bi-State Commission. North Carolina (NC) has not completed the formation of its counterpart advisory committee, so the Roanoke River Basin Bi-state Commission has not met.

This report provides information on VRRBAC’s 2003 activities. It further identifies several recommendations of the group to be carried forth by the Virginia delegation to the Roanoke River Basin Bi-State Commission.
