SD23 - Proposed Revisions to the Regulations Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia Addressing Career and Technical Education


Executive Summary:
In response to SJR 403, the Board of Education has proposed several revisions to the "Regulations Establishing Standards of Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia" (8 VAC 20-131-10 et seq.) to increase the emphasis on career and technical education. These proposed revisions to the regulations are in the review process prescribed by the Administrative Process Act and Executive Order 21 (2002), and are expected to come before the Board of Education in 2006 for final review and approval.

SJR 403 also requested the Board of Education to examine the suitability of additional industry testing programs that could be used as substitute tests for students to earn verified units of credit for graduation. The report includes a listing of the industry certifications, licensure assessments, and National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) examinations that have been approved by the Board of Education to date.
