RD317 - Monthly Report on Medicaid Expenditures for September 2006
Executive Summary: Medicaid expenditures in September were 9.6 percent above expenditures in the same month last year. Temporary delays in obtaining prior authorizations following implementation of DMAS' new prior authorization contract affected the provider community's ability to bill timely especially in late June through mid August, These delays have been resolved and the backlogged claims have begun to process and are reflected in September's expenditures. In addition, expenditures for outpatient hospital services in September 2005 were artificially low as they reflected an $11.8 million refund received from the University of Virginia Medical Center that offset an overpayment charged in July 2005. |
