RD13 - Biennial Executive Summary of the Foundation for Virginia's Natural Resources (FVNR) January 1, 2008
Executive Summary: The Foundation for Virginia’s Natural Resources § 10.1-2135 - 10.1-2139 has completed its first two full years of operation. The Board of Trustees is comprised of 13 members, each representing a major river basin of the Commonwealth. The Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry and the Secretary of Natural Resources are ex-officio Board members for their terms. There have been several Board members who have chosen to resign primarily due to time constraints. The Secretary of the Commonwealth has made replacement appointments. At this time, there is only one Board member vacancy which, when filled, will represent the Shenandoah Basin. The mandated Advisory Task Force has been very active in meetings and deliberations. The five mandated State agencies have all been very involved, and other interested constituencies have been appointed to the Task Force (see appendix attached). The Board has met on nine occasions since the beginning of 2006. Each meeting had a quorum. In January of 2006, at its first meeting, the Board voted to align itself with the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF). DOF has been very helpful in all of FVNR activities, particularly with administrative staff support. This assistance has been particularly important given the fact that FVNR has received no State funding to date. At the first meeting in January 2006, Lee Stephens, representing the York River basin, was elected as Vice Chair of FVNR. |
