Executive Summary:
At the request of the General Assembly, staff from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT’s) Richmond District reviewed the intersection of U.S. Route 522 and State Route 617 in Powhatan County. The purpose of the study was to identify necessary improvements required by the development of the Powhatan State Park on State Route 617.

The study identified the following necessary improvements:

• Provide a southbound right turn lane from U.S Route 522 to west bound State Route 617.
• Provide a northbound left turn lane from U.S. Route 522 to west bound State Route 617.
• Improve intersection sight distance from east bound State Route 617 looking to southbound U.S. Route 522.
• Improve pavement widths on U.S Route 522 to current day standards of 12’.
• Improve shoulder widths on U.S Route 522 to a 4’ paved shoulder.
