RD210 - Modeling and Simulation Business Plan - August 10, 2015

Executive Summary:
The Commonwealth of Virginia conducted a study of 10 regions across the state in 2013 on Modeling and Simulation (M&S). M&S being more a function within industries is in need of a makeover and a renewed push. Virginia is poised to take advantage of advancing M&S in VA primarily due to the fact that the Commonwealth has already positioned itself as a leader in cyber security and unmanned systems, two industries that M&S could thrive in as well as data analytics and Bio-Tech. The advancement of M&S, particularly in rural areas will bring jobs and keep in line with the Governor’s push for a new Virginia Economy. With the current push of data analytics, cyber security, unmanned systems and others industries in Virginia it is imperative that we identify key stakeholders in each industry, establish a relationship and start the conversation about the benefits of M&S in each of these industries.

M&S refers to the process of developing a model and then applying simulation to extract information concerning it. Visualization is often used to enhance user’s ability to understand, interpret, and interact with the data associated with M&S. Multiple industries utilize M&S within their own processes (including producers, suppliers, customers, and training organizations).
