Pursuant to Virginia Code § 53.1-69.1, the Board of Local and Regional Jails’ report provides a summary of the results of death reviews, trends identified in these reviews, and potential policy and regulatory changes that would reduce the number of inmates that die in jail custody.

This report summarizes jail audit and inspection results in inmate death cases to include the following:

• Any violation of jail standards.

• The frequency of any violations of jail standards.

• Follow-up and verification of Plans of Action to improve jail compliance with violated standards.

• Any recommendation for new or amended standards.
