RD544 - CodeVA 2024-2025 Annual Legislative Report
Executive Summary: CodeVA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Virginia, advances equitable access to high-quality computer science education across the Commonwealth. In partnership with VDOE, CodeVA provides professional development for educators, develops and disseminates curriculum resources, and supports divisions in planning and implementing computer science pathways. Together, these initiatives ensure compliance with Virginia’s legislative mandate that computer science and computational thinking be taught in every school, while preparing students for college, careers, and civic life in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven economy. The FY25 Scope of Work focused on three major strategies. The first was to build K–8 content connections through curriculum integration, ensuring that computer science concepts could be embedded in core instruction. The second strategy was to deepen teacher knowledge through strand-specific professional development, helping educators expand their expertise in domains aligned to Virginia’s standards. The third strategy was to enhance K–12 instruction with tools and platforms that equip teachers to bring abstract concepts to life in classrooms. This report tells the story of how CodeVA delivered on those commitments, adjusted when needed to remain responsive to educators, and created a foundation for the future. |
