RD663 - Interim Report: Biennial Review of Career and Technical Education Courses, Pathways, and Credentials
Executive Summary: Senate Bill 592 (2026) enacted as § 22.1-227.2 directs the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia Board of Workforce Development to jointly conduct a statewide biennial review of all Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, pathways, and industry-recognized credentials offered in Virginia’s public schools. This report represents the first comprehensive baseline analysis produced under that statutory authority and is intended to support the Commonwealth’s ongoing efforts to align K–12 educational programming with current and emerging workforce needs. The Boards acknowledge the contributions of the Department of Education, the Virginia Office of Education Economics, the Virginia Community College System, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, and the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement. This collaboration ensures that CTE programs remain responsive and strategically positioned to strengthen Virginia’s talent pipeline. This interim report provides the required statewide and regional information needed to inform planning, resource allocation, and policy development, and it serves as the foundation for the biennial review process beginning July 1, 2026. The final report due October 1, 2027, will include input from employers, industry partners, career and technical student organizations, and relevant state agencies to ensure the findings reflect both statewide priorities and regional workforce realities. |
