RD218 - Fluvanna County Public Schools Report on Accessibility Findings and Recommendations
Executive Summary: Pursuant to the requirements of Virginia House Bill 2278 (2025), Fluvanna County Public Schools (FCPS) conducted a comprehensive review of the physical and programmatic accessibility of all elementary and secondary school buildings, grounds, programs, and support services for individuals with disabilities. This report documents the findings of that review and addresses the following required areas: 1. Review and Evaluation a. FCPS evaluated school facilities, instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and support systems to identify physical and programmatic barriers that may limit access for individuals with disabilities. 2. Program Access a. The review examined challenges affecting access to educational programming, services, and supports for individuals with physical disabilities across the school division. 3. Barrier Identification a. The assessment was completed to identify physical accessibility challenges within school buildings and grounds, including but not limited to entrances, restrooms, circulation routes, and other critical access points. b. Current conditions were evaluated to determine barriers that may impede full participation in school activities. 4. Planning for Improvement a. FCPS will continue to monitor and develop plans, and when challenges are identified. These plans will include, but not be limited to, potential options to address and eliminate the accessibility barriers identified through an annual review process. 5. State Agency Assistance a. The report considers the role of state agencies in providing guidance, technical assistance, and resources to support FCPS in addressing accessibility challenges and achieving full compliance with applicable state and federal laws. 6. Reporting and Oversight a. In accordance with HB 2278, FCPS submits this report outlining its findings and recommendations. |
